Batgirl actress Leslie Grace has responded after the ‘awful’ film was axed.

Last year, it was confirmed the Warner Bros film would be an HBO Max original, which was set to star the American singer-come-actor as Barbara Gordon in the film.

The film was scheduled to hit our screens sometime this year, but Warner Bros Discovery has reportedly decided to ditch the $90 million movie, releasing it in neither the cinema nor on the streaming platform.

Now, the star of the film has spoken out after the news surfaced, explaining that she’s ‘proud’ of her work in the movie.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, 3 August, after the directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were criticised for cancelling the movie, the actor said she felt ‘blessed’ to work on the movie despite executives deeming the film ‘awful’.

Leslie said: “Querida familia! On the heels of the recent news about our movie 'Batgirl,' I am proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over seven months in Scotland.

“I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process! To every Batgirl fan - THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, 'my own damn hero!'''

Others were quick to share their congratulations for the actor on her work, with one fan writing: “Forever our batgirl,” while another added: “Love you sis I was looking forward to seeing this and celebrating this historic moment.”

“We love you leslie! Batgirl forever,” wrote another fan.

Meanwhile, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the playwright and composer best known for the broadway musical Hamilton commented: “#BatgirlForLife (love you for life).”

Previously, a representative of Warner Bros. Pictures told TheWrap: “The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max. Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance.

“We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future.”

Previously, it was announced that Michael Keaton was supposedly set to reprise his role as Batman in the now-cancelled Batgirl film.

The actor previously starred as the Caped Crusader back in Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992).
