AI imagines who would star in The Avengers if the film was made in the 1990s

It also had Brendan Fraser as Star-Lord, Jim Carrey as Loki, Bruce Willis as Captain America and Milla Jovovich as Black Widow.

When Marvel dropped The Avengers in 2012 it sparked a dramatic shift in cinema.

It was the start of a humungous film franchise that tied together a bunch of storylines with very big-name actors.

The movie, and subsequent films, were packed with loads of CGI and fans around the world would go wild with comic book references and Marvel Easter eggs.

However, if you've ever wanted to know what the groundbreaking movie would have looked like if it was done in the 1990s then wonder no more.

Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), we have a pretty good idea of who would be gracing the big screen in those iconic roles.

A post on Reddit shows Tom Cruise as Ironman, Brad Pitt would play Thor, and Milla Jovovich would take on Black Widow.

For those not in the know, those roles actually went to Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson.

That first trio isn't too surprising considering they all had fairly big careers by the '90s.

Cruise had Mission: Impossible under his belt, Pitt had Fight Club and Jovovich was in The Fifth Element; all of which are high-octane, action-packed blockbusters.

So, the casting works for them.

Next up, we have Michael J. Fox as Hawkeye, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Hulk, Jude Law as the voice of Jarvis and then Will Smith as Black Panther.

Again, it's pretty good casting (especially with Arnold as the green machine) and fans would have similarly gone bonkers in the cinema seeing these actors in action.

Marvel

Brendan Fraser looks incredible as Star-Lord and Bruce Willis as Captain America is simply *chef's kiss*.

To close out the '90s style Avengers film we've got the hilarious Jim Carrey as Loki, which fits like a glove considering the actor's theatricality and comedic talent.

After seeing the images on social media, people wish someone in Hollywood was brave enough to make this film a few decades ago with this cast.

One said: "Those are....actually really good choices."

Another added: "Damn I wanna live in that timeline."

A third wrote: "Well done. Bravo. Someone needs create a deepfake with those actors and use their voices."

Now we just need to fill in the rest of the gaps for a '90s Avengers film.

Like, who would play Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Thanos, Doctor Strange or Captain Marvel?
