There's nothing worse than realising your tattoo may mean something slightly different than you anticipated.

This is what happened to one man who decided to get his love for a TV show permanently inked on his skin, only to find out the tattoo's intended meaning was something else entirely.

The man, who took to Reddit to share his story, was an avid fan of Psych, which ran between 2006 and 2014 and followed Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez), a detective who convinces people he has psychic abilities.

The show often referenced pineapples, a quirk that originated when Roday improvised a scene with the fruit in the pilot and was subsequently used in other episodes.

Dulé Hill, who portrayed Gus in the show, later explained that the scene demonstrated that Roday could work with whatever was around him.

Originally just a prop, a pineapple would then be used in nearly every episode. As such, it's easy to imagine why Psych fans associate the fruit with their favourite series.

Back to the Redditor, he opted for the Psych-coded fruit to adorn his calf forever together with the quote 'I know you know', ignoring that a pineapple (specifically, an upside-down pineapple) has come to become a symbol of a swinging lifestyle.

It's said that if a pineapple is placed outside someone's house, it apparently indicates that a 'swinging party' is going on inside.

Feeling like they needed to remove the tat and asking for cover up ideas, the Redditor wrote: "Long story short, it’s a Psych reference that I just love, but more than that it’s 100% a swinger thing (Oop).

"Didn’t realize it at the time, and my heart goes out to swingers, but sadly I’m not part of the lifestyle. Any help? Thinking of keeping the pineapple, but the words just need to go unfortunately."

Some people's suggestions were pretty funny, with one commenting: "Add 'that I am not a swinger' at the bottom."

Another added: "Honestly, just put the word Psych! next to it. It will show you are a fan of the show and any swingers checking out your calf will just think they got punked."

Others agreed that the quote 'I know you know' makes it far more suggestive, with someone else commenting: "The quote makes it so much worse."

The original poster has since shared an update, writing: "It’s me, the OP. Thank you fellow Psych-O’s I will not be covering it up. Cmon son."
