Man tracks how much alcohol he drank for an entire year and is shocked by the results

The man monitored whether he had sober days or even got 'blackout' drunk

A Reddit user who tracked his alcohol consumption throughout 2023 has revealed the impacts it's had on his life.

A hard day at work, a celebration, a date, or just because you feel like it - there are all sorts of reasons why people drink alcohol, making it easy to lose track of how often you're indulging.

In order to better monitor his drinking, one Reddit user who goes by the handle 'GuruRoo' decided to come up with a color-coded chart which he used to track his consumption for the entirety of 2023.

He shared the results in a post on Reddit, with a key explaining what each color on the chart referred to.

Green days meant he didn't drink at all; yellow meant he'd had one to three drinks; orange was four to six, red was seven plus and black was, appropriately, 'blackout'.

The data indicates the man learned pretty early on in the year that he wasn't a fan of getting blackout drunk, with only one black rectangle featured in late February.

However, there were a fair few red rectangles on the graph, as well as a lot of yellow and orange days.

As the year came to an end, the Reddit user looked back on his year and could see that he'd had more days where he'd consumed between one to six drinks than days where he hadn't drunk anything at all.

With 88 days of the year spent completely sober, the graph indicated that he'd had a drink on the remaining 277 days - almost two thirds - of the year.

After considering his results, the man took to Reddit to share his thoughts on his consumption.

In his post, the man explained that looking at the graph made him want to drink less throughout the year.

He wrote: "Simply tracking my consumption really motivated me to chase more sober days. Primed to make 2024 even greener."

Other Reddit users were impressed to see the results after the man shared them on the thread r/dataisbeautiful, with one person responding: "Wow, dude. I'm surprised you were able to keep track!"

The poster admitted it was easier to keep track of his more excessive drinking days when he grouped them as '7+', but it wasn't only his drinks he monitored.

In a comment added after sharing his post, the man estimated that he spent at least $4,500 on drinks throughout the year, possibly spending up to as much as
