Eerie footage caught in California shows the moment a 'ghost' walked across the middle of a road before disappearing.

Driving down an empty road at night can be creepy enough as it is; the last thing you need is a supernatural element added into the equation.

I guess you can't tell ghosts what to do though, so one woman from Fresno was forced to deal with it when she appeared to have a ghostly sighting on Monday (22 January).

Thankfully, the woman did at least have footage of the scene to allow other people to share in her experience.

She shared the video after seeing the 'ghost' while on her drive home from Table Mountain Casino, which she recorded due to the fog patches lingering on the road that night.

As the car made its way round a long bend, what looked like a transparent figure suddenly appeared in the middle of the road and took a few steps towards the other lane.

The footage appeared to capture a figure crossing the road.

Just as quickly as it appeared, the ghostly figure disappeared once again into the night as the car continued to approach.

A caption on the video reads: "Y'all see that."

The sighting took place at approximately 8:50pm along Friant Road; a road that's been the site of numerous fatal accidents over the years.

In 2023, a woman died after her car collided with a tow truck at around 1am at the intersection of Friant Road and Shepherd Avenue.

Also last year, a 50-year-old doctor and his wife died on the road after crashing into a tree.

According to Fresyes, legend suggests the ghost of a former police officer patrols Friant Road and pulls over cars to warn them about potential accidents.

The officer is believed to have died on a stretch of Friant Road in a car crash.

Viewers are divided over what the ghost could be.

After seeing the footage of the latest ghostly sighting online, viewers took to the comments to share their thoughts.

"Definitely a ghost," one viewer commented, while another wrote: "Yes, I have seen and heard many ghost on roads."

But other viewers weren't so sure.

"More than likely dust kicked up by a breeze," one person argued, while another commented: "Looks like oncoming car light reflecting fog."

Some viewers have claimed the footage is 'edited', but whatever the explanation for the footage, it definitely serves as a good reminder for anyone travelling on Friant Road to be careful and be conscious of what's going on outside the car.
