Managers have started a 'swipe and seat' response to employees' coffee badging trend

There's nothing more annoying than a manager peering over your shoulder to triple check you're working

Hybrid workers are seeing a pushback from managers after finding a way to be in the office less, known commonly as the 'coffee badging' trend.

Following the coronavirus pandemic, hybrid working has become the norm for multiple industries and we can't lie, it's a brilliant thing.

Well, it is for most people, but some management in some companies have taken issue with not being able to constantly check up on employees in person. Who would have guessed this about middle management?

Loads of employees are happy to do their work from the comfort of their home, feet up, in their PJs and management shouldn’t care unless the work doesn’t get done. Right?

The calls into the office have always been annoying, especially if you end up just staring at a computer all day anyway.

So to combat this, some cheeky workers decided to start a trend now known as coffee badging.

It is essentially coming into the office, clocking in to show face and sticking around long enough for a cup of coffee and maybe a few meetings before heading back home, ultimately still doing most of your work from home.

However, one social media user has brought attention to the fact that some managers in companies have found a way around this trick from employees.

Yup, let the employee vs employer battle commence.

TikToker @elite.recruiter explained that managers are now tracking badge swipes of employees into the office building.

In the big modern world of technology, everything leaves a trace (annoyingly) and some managers are using it to their advantage.

While referencing a BuzzFeed article, she said that managers were now simply focusing on key-swipe data to see who was in the office and for how long.

The BuzzFeed article claimed that in some instances, companies had used this data to aide in performance ratings as well as promotion and layoffs decisions. Yikes.

You would think they would simply find a good way to manage productivity rather than put so much weight on whether you are at the desk in the office or the one in your study.

The TikToker said this trend from management was part of ‘impression management’, wanting to walk around the office and see people swipe and sit down at desks.

She closed the video by asking her followers whether they would continue coffee badging, or whether as management they will continue to track employees.

To no one's surprise, everyone had horror stories of bosses doing way too much to get people in the office.

What about you? Do you have any horror stories about your bosses when it comes to hybrid working?
