Adopted man claims he discovered wife of six years and mother of his children is his sister after she fell ill

The man has claimed he had no idea that he was related to his partner of six years

An adopted man has claimed that his wife of six whole years is actually related to him - his biological sister to be exact.

The couple also share two children together, with the man only discovering the family lineage after his wife fell ill and was in serious need of a kidney transplant.

The fateful news finally surfaced after medical procedures found a DNA match so high it indicated that the two parents were siblings.

The man took to Reddit in a now-deleted post to reveal the crazy discovery he made.

According to the post, the man was involved in a closed adoption and therefore has no access to record about his biological parents - hence the very big mix-up.

The whole fiasco rose to its head after he underwent a few tests to determine whether or not he'd be a suitable donor for his wife who urgently needed a new kidney following the birth of their child.

In a bid to figure out if he was an alright fit, the man submitted testing - one of which included DNA analysis.

The Reddit post revealed: "Just after our son was born, my wife fell ill and is now in need of a kidney transplant. We checked with her relatives and none were a good match or a viable donor, according to our inquiry."

The adopted man added that while he thought it would be 'unlikely' that he would be a suitable donor, he opted for the test regardless - just to check if he was a viable match anyway.

"I knew it would be a long shot so I decided to get tested to see if I could donate. I got a call the other day saying that I was a match," he continued.

The doctor then advised that the man do some more 'additional testing' due to some information from the 'HLA (human leukocyte antigen) tissue test results'.

"I didn't think much of it and agreed," he went on.

But, when the results from the tissue test finally arrived, the adopted man learned that he and his wife of six years had an 'abnormally high match percentage'.

Upon receiving the results, the man revealed that he was 'shocked and confused'.

The doctor explained that 'because of how DNA information is passed down through generations a parent to a child could have at least a 50 per cent match and siblings could have a 0-100 per cent match'.

After finding out just how 'rare' it was to have such a 'high match as husband and wife', the man asked the doctor what the results actually mean for the couple.

"We're related - no, I'm not kidding."

The tests effectively concluded that the pair were, in fact, biologically connected and his wife was most likely his biological sibling.

He wrote: "We're related - no, I'm not kidding.

"I don't know what to do moving forward but I know it may be wrong. She is my wife and the mother of our kids."

The man concluded the post saying: "This post is probably going to get removed but it is all true."

Many Reddit users were eager to share their reactions to the man's extremely bizarre discovery.

One wrote: "I mean at this point you are married with children already - you can't take that back so I don't see much point in blowing worlds up, I guess," per the Mirror.

Another added: "You already have kids and they are assumedly healthy since you didn’t mention any crazy abnormalities.

"If you’re happy, you’re happy. Donate the kidney to your sister-wife and continue being great parents to your children."

"Everything's been great this long, no point changing it," shared a third.
