William H. Macy has been cut down by people on social media after he revealed how he's had a successful marriage to his wife Felicity Huffman.
Actor William H. Macy has been married to his partner Felicity Huffman for almost 30 years, marrying in 1997 and having two children together.
So Macy was pretty chipper when he was discussing what has helped him and Huffman have such a long-lasting marriage.
Discussing his relationship with US Weekly on the red carpet on January 4 at the Critics Choice Award, Macy’s explanation has been ridiculed on social media.

Reflecting on their relationship, The 75-year-old said: “There’s no secrets. First of all, she’s a fabulous human being, so if you want a good marriage, marry her. But I already did.
“Our relationship is founded in show biz. We met in the theater. We talk about acting all the time. We love acting. She’s a magnificent actor. We talk about our roles together.
“We’ve been lucky and we raised our kids here in Los Angeles, and we kept them out of the business, although my oldest, Sophia Macy, is an actor. We tried to have a normal family, and it was pretty normal.”

However, people on Reddit pointed out one major scandal the couple faced that resulted in Huffman being sent to jail briefly that contradicted this statement.
In 2019, Huffman was accused of disguising a bribery scheme to have someone correct her daughter’s SAT answers as a $15,000 charitable payment.
This became known as the Varsity Blues Scandal, and Huffman was arrested by FBI and IRS agents on March 12, 2019.
She would eventually plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. She was sentenced to 14 days in jail and one year of supervised released, 250 hours of community service as well as a $30,000 fine.
At the time, there were many questions regarding why Macy had not been charged similarly but it was ultimately determined his wife was considerably more involved than he was, if at all.
Despite Macy’s well-meaning comments, people on social media were quick to bring up the scandal and scrutinize it against his ‘no secrets’ comment.

One Reddit user commented: “Except when one of you gets in legal trouble for bribing admissions offices, then it’s important that you both understand that one of you acting in complete secrecy from the other.”
Another added: “Well, it also helps when she takes the fall for the secrets too (see school scandal).”
With a third writing: “Also, when they need a little break from each other, she goes to jail. Like a mini-vacation.”
With another annoyed user adding: "Conspiring to screw over other people’s kids in order to give yours a headstart really draws people together. Couple of selfish a**holes actually.”
UNILAD has contacted William H. Macy’s representatives for comment.
