US talkshow host Rosie O'Donnell is the latest person to throw shade at Jeff Bezos and his new wife Lauren Sánchez for their opulent nuptials.
On Friday, June 27, the Amazon CEO and former journalist tied the knot in front of 200 of the most elite guests you can imagine, including the Kardashians, Leonardo DiCaprio (whose next film is the black-comedy actioner One Battle After Another), Oprah Winfrey, Ivanka Trump, and rising star Sydney Sweeney, whom readers will recognise from Euphoria and The White Lotus.
Their Venetian wedding reportedly cost $56 million (£40m) but did certainly not go down well with everyone. Not only was half of Venice protesting their intended location, but other celebs appear to have slammed the extravagant event - one of those being O'Donnell.
Posting via Instagram on Monday, June 30, O'Donnell claimed the whole thing 'turned my stomach' before really tearing into Bezos.

Edited for clarity, here's what she wrote: "The BEZOS wedding, it turned my stomach. Seeing all these billionaires gathering in the gross excess of it all. The show of it. Is Oprah friends with Jeff Bezos? Really - how is that possible? He treats his employees with disdain. By any metric he is not a nice man."
Referring to Bezos's ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, whom he divorced in 2019 after 26 years, she added: "Why would he choose [Sánchez] after the salt of the earth Mackenzie? Sold his soul is what it looks like from here. The devil is smiling at all his conquests."

O'Donnell, who is sometimes nicknamed the 'Queen of Nice' due to her philanthropic endeavours, was challenged by one social media user in the comment section.
"Hey Rosie, the attending guest were requested to not give them any gift but donate to Venice charities," they replied. "They have a right to do whatever they want, maybe you should just mind your damn business!!"
However, the majority were in agreement with her pretty brutal dissection of the wedding.
"How they all literally basked in being seen at this event. Like it was a sign of their status. I think they mean it more to show us ours, according to them," read another message.

"All those members of the arts... it's disappointing, really" and "The whole thing was vulgar. Especially with what is happening in the world," were two more reactions.

This comes in the wake of some other scathing remarks on the internet, which saw users take aim at the supposed falseness of Bezos and Sanchez's guestlist.
"I love how Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez have no real friends. like why are you inviting Sydney Sweeney and Ellie Goulding to your 200 person wedding," one user posted on Twitter.

A second typed: "Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez only had 200 people at their wedding, and they invited Sydney Sweeney, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Brady. My conclusion is that they don't have any real friends."
While a third added: "Weddings like this aren't about friends they're about projecting status. Small number = exclusive, A listers only = look how important we are. It's pretty sad how someone as wealthy & powerful as Bezos still engages in these games & how it's pretty much just his mid life crisis."
