Noah Cyrus has hit back at internet users getting 'angry' after she liked a post shared by her sister Miley Cyrus' ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.

Miley and Liam decided to divorce in 2019, marking the end to a 10-year, on-again, off-again relationship that began when the pair were both still teenagers.

Five years on from the split, Liam has recently been promoting his latest movie, Land of Bad, which released in theatres in February.

The movie has received middling reviews, earning a score of 63 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and this weekend Liam took to Instagram to thank everyone who's supported it so far.

"A massive thank you to everyone that has watched Land of Bad! The feedback has been awesome. Extremely grateful for all the love and support!," Liam wrote, alongside a black and white picture of himself in the gym.

The actor also added the hashtag '#legday'.

Unsurprisingly for a celebrity post, Liam's picture wracked up hundreds of thousands of likes - but there was one liker in particular that caught users' attention - Noah.

At 24-years-old, Noah is the younger sister of Miley and therefore the former sister-in-law of Liam, meaning it's not all that unusual that she would be following the actor on Instagram.

However, her decision to like the photo - caught in screenshots - surprised fans and prompted some backlash.

"Noah Cyrus is out here liking Liam Hemsworth’s instagram," one X user wrote, adding: "If my sister was out here liking my ex husband’s instagrams I’d be digging her grave."

Noah since seems to have un-liked the photo, but she appeared to criticize the backlash in a since-deleted Instagram Story shared after she tapped the heart button.

Screenshots of the story show a caption reading: "theres [sic] no greater joy than seeing yall get sooooooo angry over the dumbest sh*t it's so entertaining and funny."

Noah Cyrus appeared to respond to the criticism in her post.

Though some internet users were clearly unimpressed with Noah's move, other people have stuck up for her and argued that she and Liam would likely have built their own relationship over the years due to his romance with Miley.

On Reddit, one fan wrote: "I mean it’s an Instagram like, my siblings and friends like my exes photos on social media occasionally and I don’t have an issue with it.

"I’d have an issue with dating obviously, but an Instagram like is an Instagram like. At the end of the day Liam was Noah’s sort of big brother during her formative years."

The backlash to the like comes amid rumors of further family drama involving Miley and Noah's mom, Tish Cyrus, and the 'issues' in her marriage to Prison Break star Dominic Purcell.
