Warning: This article contains discussion of domestic violence which some readers may find distressing.

Christina Fulton is taking her ex Nicolas Cage to court over the abuse she claims she suffered at the hands of their son Weston Coppola Cage, who they co-parented together.

It has been more than three decades since the pair dated, splitting shortly after Weston was born in 1990. Now aged 34, Cage's eldest son - and the pair's only child they share - is alleged to have assaulted Fulton, leaving her with 'life-threatening injuries'.

Weston would have been 33 years old when the assault his mom claims happened, with it allegedly taking place last year on April 28.

Court documents state that the 57-year-old is suing her 61-year-old former flame, citing that he was aware their son 'desperately' needed help and that he failed to stop his behaviour from escalating.

Fulton claims that Cage aided their son's 'substance abuse history', claiming that the pair enjoy a drink together, and how the Oscar-winning actor has bailed his son out of jail numerous times.

"Weston has a long history of mental and psychological disorder and a history of committing violent assault and battery and harming numerous individuals," the filing read.

"Nicolas has been aware of Weston's history and nevertheless failed to take action to prevent Weston from committing acts of violence and harming others."

The incident is believed to have began with Weston and Fulton arguing, but the verbal dispute allegedly soon became violent.

Following the incident, the court document states that Fulton sustained injuries including a concussion, multiple bruises, a 'disfiguring eye injury', dental trauma, as well as PTSD and other psychological damages.

At the time, Fulton insisted that Weston just experienced a 'mental health crisis' and denied all reports that they had argued.

The lawsuit added: "Nicolas knew or should have known that Weston posed a serious and imminent danger to others, including Plaintiff, based on his documented history of violent assaults, substance abuse, and mental instability."

A spokesperson for Nicolas Cage told LADbible Group: “The allegations by Christina Fulton against Nicolas Cage are absurd and frivolous. Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old man. Mr. Cage does not control Weston's behavior in any manner and is not responsible for Weston's alleged assault of his mother."
