Michelle Obama has shared some insight into her marriage to Barack Obama amid reports the couple are having relationship problems.

Any married person will tell you that being with someone for some many years doesn't come easy, especially if your husband is the President of the United States.

Barack was president between between 2009 to 2017 and raised his daughters, Malia and Sasha, in the White House alongside Michelle.

The family had to up sticks from Chicago, where Michelle's from, to relocate to the US Capitol.

The couple have remained in the spotlight since Barack left office almost a decade ago and have recently been hit with rumors that they're headed for divorce — but Michelle has shut down such speculation.

Speaking to Steven Bartlett on his The Diary of a CEO podcast, Michelle addressed the reports head on.

"You know me now well enough, Steven, if I was having problems with my husband everyone would know about it," she said.

But further on in the conversation, Michelle admitted that there's been points in her marriage to Barack where she's grown 'resentful'.

"There were moments when I was resentful, there were moments when I was mad, there were moments where I didn't feel like I got a enough attention," she shared, "but it's like, don't you feel that in your relationship right now?"

Michelle added: "It's just me understanding yeah I got mad, but I forgot even why I was mad."

She went on to say that neither her or Barack would have ever really quit their marriage, even when times were hard during his presidency.

"That's not who we are," Michelle insisted.

Elsewhere in the conversation, she discussed having couples counseling with Barack.

Noting her therapy experiences, Steven asked her for her advice on 'how to navigate love', while also trying to build on his career.

Michelle went on to say that, while it's great that couples have their own individual identities and careers and 'trudge along' to become better, a pinnacle moment is when they create a joint project, i.e kids.

"That's often times when the rub happens," she said. "When you bring life into the world, you know, that's the project that you can't do independently."

Michelle continued: "You can't be on one path and your partner on another because raising those kids and making them as whole as you'd want them to be has so little to do with the dragon you're slaying now than how it does when you partner and engage and make choices together on these little creatures that you're going to love more than anything in the world."
