Mark Hamill calls on users to boycott Twitter today to show Elon Musk 'the power of the people'

The Star Wars actor urged users to join him for a 'tweet out day'.

Mark Hamill is calling on Twitter users to boycott ‘X’ to show Elon Musk the ‘power of the people’.

The Star Wars actor urged users to turn their backs on the social media giant, writing over the weekend: "This will only be effective if EVERYONE refrains from tweeting (X-ing?) on August 1st a/k/a #TweetlessTuesday.

"Let's show the owner the POWER OF THE PEOPLE. Honestly, would it kill you to keep your thoughts to yourself for 1 d--- day? Read a book!”

The legendary actor also retweeted a post by a user who goes by the name Sgt Pepper who proposed the ‘Tweet Out’ day.

“Think of the revenue lost for Twitter - X if we did that. Best way to affect change with a billionaire is to hit them in the wallet. RT if you are with me,” they penned.

In a previous tweet, Hamill said he was ‘looking forward to taking a day off on #TweetlessTuesday!!!’

It comes after Hamill poked fun at Musk's new company logo, calling it ‘eXecrable’.

The actor is one of many to lash out over the South African business magnate's company changes.

Most recently, the SpaceX founder threatened to sue a research company that found that hate speech on Twitter had soared since Musk acquired it last year.

A lawyer representing Twitter has threatened legal action against the non-profit Countering Digital Hate over its research into hate speech and content moderation, as per the Sydney Morning Herald.

The lawyer’s letter sent out on July 20 claims that the organisation made ‘misleading assertions’ about Twitter that harmed the company’s business and drove advertisers away.

The Center for Countering Digital Hate previously reported that the company failed to act on 99 per cent of hate posted by the subscribers and questioned whether the social media platform’s algorithm boosts ‘toxic tweets’.

“The Twitter blue tick used to be a sign of authority and authenticity, but it is now inextricably linked to the promotion of hate and conspiracism,” Imran Ahmed, the Chief Executive of the Center for Countering Digital Hate, said in a statement.

“What gives blue tick hate actors confidence to spew their bile is the knowledge that Elon Musk simply doesn’t care about the civil and human rights of black people, Jews, Muslims and LGBTQ+ people, as long as he can make his eight bucks a month.”
