Mariah Carey has opened up about her devastating loss after her mother and her sister both unexpectedly died on the same day.
Taking to her Instagram page, the singer confirmed that she had returned to work two weeks after the double bereavement.
Carey's mom Patricia and her sister Alison both died on the same day, with the celebrity not sharing any details about their deaths.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE following the loss, Carey said: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend.

“Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
She added: “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.”
Now, the singer has announced that she has gone back to work after taking two weeks out.
She posted a clip of herself to one her social media pages rehearsing her 2005 hit It's Like That ahead of upcoming tour dates in Brazil and China.

Alongside the video she posted a caption explaining that it had been a 'rough couple of weeks'.
She wrote: “Back at work. It’s been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much and I can’t wait to see my fans in China & Brazil. Love you!"
Her fans poured into the comments to share their best wishes for the singer and welcome her onto the next legs of her tour.

Another posted: "We waiting 4 u With much love queen!" and added several Brazilian flags afterwards.
A third reflected: "Phew. The show must go on. Seems a bit strange..."
Patricia, 87, had been an opera singer and vocal coach.

Carey had previously opened up about their relationship in her 2020 memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey.
She revealed that competition had strained their relationship at times, writing: "[it] comes with the territory of success, but when the person is your mother and the jealousy is revealed at such a tender age, it’s particularly painful."
Her sister Alison, 63, had been receiving treatment at a hospice at the time of her death according to a friend quoted in a report in New York State paper Times Union.

Carey had a complex relationship with her sister, becoming estranged from her and her brother Morgan.
The singer had said that it was 'emotionally and physically safer for me to not have any contact'.
Following the release of her memoir, Alison sued Carey for $1.2 million, claiming emotional distress and calling the book 'vindictive'.
