It's Valentine's Day and Wuthering Heights is officially out in movie theaters, meaning there's about to be thousands of people getting swept up in the great romance between Cathy and Heathcliff.

Obviously, there'll be a lot of Emily Brontë fans who will be interested to see how the novel translates this time to the big screen, but there's no denying that there'll also be a lot of audience members there for the cast, namely Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

The pair have had fans swooning even just through their press tour, so it's safe to say there will be floods of people keen to watch their passion unfold on screen.

And passion they will get.

According to early reviews, the Emerald Fennell-directed movie is described as a 'bodice-ripper', with reviewer Peter Travers describing how the pair 'suck each other's faces' with an abandon that would 'shock Victorians'. To be clear, he added: "No complaints here."

The Standard has described Wuthering Heights as 'filthy', and Robbie herself admitted in an interview on BBC Radio 1 that she and Elordi acknowledged the steaminess of the film as they gave an X-rated nickname - not shared on the radio - to one rock the couple share an explicit moment on.

But while some are happy with the saucy scenes - with Shawn Edwards of Fox 4 Kansas City calling the movie a 'uniquely original masterpiece' - others aren't so sure as they claim the plot is 'lost' among the steamier aspects.

In defense of the film, Robbie told British Vogue that Wuthering Heights is, ultimately, 'a big epic romance'.

"Everyone’s expecting this to be very, very raunchy. I think people will be surprised," she said prior to the movie's release.

Robbie continued: "Not to say there aren’t sexual elements and that it’s not provocative – it definitely is provocative – but it’s more romantic than provocative. This is a big epic romance. It’s just been so long since we’ve had one – maybe The Notebook, also The English Patient. You have to go back decades. It’s that feeling when your chest swells or it’s like someone’s punched you in the guts and the air leaves your body. That’s a signature of [director] Emerald’s. Whether it’s titillating or repulsion, her superpower is eliciting a physical response."

Robbie acknowledged that the adaptation of the beloved book had resulted in mixed feelings, but she resolved that you have to 'just not listen to the noise and trust that the thing you’re putting out is what people will be happy to have'.
