Leonardo DiCaprio says iconic Wolf of Wall Street scene took 'three or four days' to film

The actor was under the impression that the sequence was only going to be short

If there's one movie Leonardo DiCaprio will go down in the history books for, it's The Wolf of Wall Street.

The three-hour long dark comedy hit theaters back in 2013 and sees Titanic alumni DiCaprio portray the notorious stockbroker Jordan Belfort.

Directed by Martin Scorsese, the movie was also Margot Robbie's big break. She portrayed Belfort's now-ex wife Naomi Lapaglia and was fully nude in some scenes of the movie — something she reportedly insisted on.

Scorsese was open to adjusting one of the scenes and have her wear a robe, but Robbie argued that 'that’s not what [Naomi] would do in that scene'.

"The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked — that’s the card she’s playing," Robbie went on to say on the Talking Pictures podcast.

Away from Robbie's full frontal nudity in the film, another well-known scene saw DiCaprio's character high on quaaludes and trying to walk down some stairs to get into his car.

Belfort himself had to teach DiCaprio how to look like he was on drugs for the scene in question.

"I showed him what it looks and feels like when you are high on quaaludes," Belfort told the New York Post in 2018, adding: "I started crawling around. We were both on the floor, drooling. His father walked into the room and asked us what the f*ck we were doing."

While the scene went on to become a staple of the movie, DiCaprio was initially under the impression that it was only going to be a short sequence.

DiCaprio recently discussed the scene on Travis and Jason Kelce's New Heights podcast.

In his new movie One Battle After Another, his character is tased. This sparked Jason to ask: "Is it harder to act like you’ve been tased or that you’re high on quaaludes?"

"I gotta say about that quaalude sequence, I didn’t know when I was shooting it but we were there for three or four days," DiCaprio replied.

He went on: "I thought it was a couple shots and [Martin Scorsese] had 50 shots of me crawling around, up and down the stairs, falling, getting in the car."

DiCaprio then revealed that the tase scene in One Battle After Another 'took 20 minutes'.

Elsewhere on the podcast the actor revealed that he was nearly forced to take on a stage name because his real name was supposedly 'too ethnic'.

DiCaprio explained that when he got an agent, they made remarks about his moniker, and suggested he go by Lenny Williams instead.

But his father stepped in and insisted that the now-global star be known by his birth-given name.
