Lindsay Lohan received massive payday to be in new Mean Girls movie for just half day's work

The actor has received a hefty pay check from the new adaptation of the cult classic

With the new Mean Girls hitting screens this week, the fee for Lindsay Lohan in the new movie is definitely 'fetch'.

Fans of cult classic Mean Girls have had a lot to talk about following the release of a new version of the film.

The updated version sees the iconic 2004 movie brought screeching into 2024, with all the social media and smartphones that entails.

Lohan has a cameo in the tournament, taking on the part of the moderator of a math competition in the new film.

Meanwhile, Angourie Rice takes on Lohan's old role as new arrival, Cady Heron, as she navigates the intricacies and power of high school.

Tina Fey also reprises her role as math teacher Ms Norbury, while Jon Hamm joins the cast as Coach Carr.

But it seems that while Lohan's role was relatively small, her pay packet for the role was anything but.

According to a report from Variety, Lohan may have scooped a pay packet of $500,000 for the half day's work on the new incarnation.

The new version of Mean Girls sees a stage musical of the story adapted for the big screen.

Lohan's surprise entrance sparked a round of applause when the film premiered in New York on January 8.

However, it's been reported that one part of the film left Lohan feeling 'hurt' and 'disappointed' - clearly not by the alleged payout.

Many fans of the original movie were left surprised after rushing to the cinema, with one person's reaction in particular catching the attention of people online.

Footage from inside the cinema captured the groans and laughter from the audience as they realised the film was a musical.

The new version hasn't veered too far from the original, although does promise twists on the modern classic.

The official synopsis reads: "New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called 'The Plastics,' ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika).

"However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina’s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney), she finds herself prey in Regina’s crosshairs. As Cady sets to take down the group’s apex predator with the help of her outcast friends Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), she must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school."
