Joe Jonas receives backlash for asking Gigi Hadid out when she was 13 years old

People are flooding to social media in outrage to remind everyone that Joe Jonas allegedly asked out Gigi Hadid when she was 13-years-old.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Camp Rock star filed for divorce from Sophie Turner. The pair share two children together and have been married for four years.

Fans of the musician and actor have been sceptical surrounding some of the details of their divorce, left questioning different sources which have portrayed Turner as a party girl when she's previously opened up about her anxiety and preferring to stay at home.

And now, those choosing to side with Turner - despite her saying their relationship has ended 'amicably' - are taking to social media to remind everyone of when the Jonas brother reportedly asked model Gigi Hadid out when she was just 13-years-old.

Jonas and Hadid dated for several months back in 2015.

Hadid was 20-years-old at the time and Jonas was 26.

At the time, a source told People that it wasn't a 'dramatic break-up' and the pair had remained friends.

However, it's not the first time they've shared a moment together, according to the model.

In 2008, Hadid and Jonas met for the first time at the Grammys when she was 13-years-old and he was 19.

In a Periscope stream, as quoted by Teen Vogue, Hadid says Jonas asked her 'to a baseball game' but she turned his offer down.

She continued: "I was so nervous; I literally didn’t even know what it meant to hang out with a boy.

"And also, Grammys are on a Sunday, and I didn’t want to tell him that I had school the next day, so I was like, 'No, maybe next time.'

"I didn’t have my phone with me, and I don’t think he did either because we were at the Grammys, and so he wrote his number on a piece of paper and gave it to my mom."

And in light of the recent news of Jonas and Turner heading their separate ways, fans are taking to Twitter to highlight this interaction between Jonas and Hadid.

One user said: "Idgaf about the Sophie Turner/Joe Jonas divorce but I would like to point out… that Joe Jonas tried to date Gigi Hadid when she was just 13 years old… he was an adult by then.

"He dated her 5 years later at 18. So. Just an FYI, since he’s smearing the mother of his children."

"A 19 year old Joe Jonas asked out a 13-year-old Gigi Hadid and that’s all I need to know about what kind of guy he is," another added.

And a third resolved: "IDK if he was in the wrong or right in all this divorce discourse... but learning that Joe Jonas was 19 when he was asking out 13 year old Gigi Hadid is honestly quite disturbing."
