The MTV Awards has given us the best and worst celebrity moments, but not all the worst moments have gone unpunished.
We have Jim Carrey to thank for that!
After Cameron Diaz was forcibly kissed onstage at the awards ceremony, an unlikely hero came to the rescue, which has led to a massive outpouring of love to the actor.

In 1995, Diaz was presenting the winner of the ‘Best Kiss’ award alongside musician Chris Isaak, when Isaak decided to accost her in front of the attendees.
Initially, the singer started to ask ‘The Mask’ actress to kiss, but when it became clear that she was in no way planning to give in, he forcibly grabbed her face and kissed her himself.
Despite Diaz leaning away and putting her arm up to block herself from him, Isaak continues to lean closer and grabs her by the wrist.
Isaak then overpowers Diaz and comments he knew she would 'come around' to the idea.
Yuck.
The scene caused public outrage, but thankfully there was a portion of the footage which showed that the consequence of Isaak’s MTV behaviour was soon dealt with.
An extended version of the footage has revealed Jim Carrey, getting some sweet revenge for his co-star.
The Truman Show star won the award that Diaz and Isaak were presenting, and Carrey used this moment to help a fellow actor in need.
It was then that alongside his co-star of Dumb and Dumber Lauren Holly, he ascended the staircase of the stage, walked directly over to Isaak and embraced him.
Well, it wasn’t just a simple embrace.
While it can't be seen from the perspective of the camera whether the pair actually smooched or not, Isaak can be seen wiping his lips after Carrey walks off, with an uncomfortable look on his face.
Come to the conclusion that Carrey indeed gave Isaak a taste of his own medicine and snogged his face with force.
The clip has been shared on TikTok and has amassed over 2 million views, and swaths of comments in support and praise for Carrey's reaction to Diaz's uncomfortable situation.
One user wrote: "I have never seen this before but I’ve had a personal grudge against Chris Isaak since I was a teenager and it’s nice to know I was right to do so”.
"The way Jim Carrey licks his lips after.”
A third commented: "Jim sitting in the audience like ‘I’ve got a deliciously devious ides’”.
A final resolved: "God, I love Jim Carrey. He’s always been my favourite.”
