Jada Pinkett Smith has hit back at claims she 'blindsided' Will Smith over her 'entanglement' with August Alsina.

It comes as the Girls Trip actor promotes her new memoir, Worthy, during which she reflects on her relationship with her A-Lister husband and their numerous controversies.

The 52-year-old has also spoken about her 'entanglement' with rapper Alsina, which became public knowledge during an infamous podcast in 2020.

Rumours of their relationship had already begun to spiral around this time, after Alsina claimed he gave 'years of his life' to Pinkett Smith.

In a YouTube interview with Angela Lee, he claimed that he and her had been romantically involved and Pinkett Smith's partner, Will Smith, had 'given his blessing'.

“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her,” he told viewers.

Continuing, he added: “I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it — so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”

Following this, Smith and Pinkett Smith went onto address the rapper's comment in a July 2020 episode of Red Table Talk.

During the episode, the Scream 2 actor claimed that she'd initially had a 'friendship' with the rapper over four years.

According to reports, the pair had previously met through her son Jaden in 2015.

However, Pinkett Smith went on to say that she had a 'different kind of entanglement with August', with her claiming that she'd broken it off - sparking controversy over the admission.

Reflecting on the tumultuous period of her life on Today, insisted that her former husband Smith had been aware before the episode aired and had not been 'blindsided'.

It happened during her latest interview with Hoda Kotb, with the veteran presenter quizzing her about the incident.

“You and this young man had, as you call it, an entanglement,” Hoda said, adding: “And you and Will were talking about it, and me not knowing what was going on, I said, ‘My God, this guy’s been blindsided. What’s going on here?’ So I’m watching this weird dance go on. It looks like this guy’s been humiliated on national television.”

During the candid interview, Pinkett Smith also shocked fans by revealing that her and Smith had been separated for seven years.

She said: "By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be."

Despite this, the couple don't seem to be heading for divorce with the actor admitting that she just hadn't 'been able to break that promise' she made when she married.
