Angus Cloud cause of death revealed to be accidental overdose

The Euphoria actor died in July

Angus Cloud died due to an accidental overdose, the coroner's office has confirmed.

A spokesperson for the Alameda County Coroner told Entertainment Tonight: “Angus Cloud died from a lethal combination of fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and more, in what is ruled as an accidental overdose.

"Angus suffered from acute intoxication from the combination of drugs, which also included benzodiazepine."

The Euphoria actor died on 31 July at his home in Oakland, California.

At the time, his family released the following statement to TMZ: "It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today. As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways.

"Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss.

"The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend.

"Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence."

Cloud appeared as Fezco in the hit HBO drama series alongside the likes of Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi.

HBO wrote in a statement regarding the actor's death: "We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud. He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family. We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time."

The 25-year-old was born and raised in Oakland to Irish parents and had planned to move to Ireland before becoming involved in the world of film and TV.

Cloud had studied set-building and lighting at Oakland School for the Art and was working at a restaurant in New York City when Euphoria casting director, Jennifer Venditti, approached him for the role of Fez.

At the time, Cloud was close to moving his entire life over to Ireland where the majority of his family resides, but Venditti caught him at just the right time. Although, he was initially sceptical.

“She asked me if I would be down to do an audition, but she didn’t exactly say what it was for," he explained to the Wall Street Journal. "I thought it was some type of scam."

However, it all worked out, with Cloud striking out and landing the role of Fez in the Drake-produced show.

Tributes poured in for the actor following his death, with co-star Zendaya writing on Instagram: "I'm so grateful I got the chance to know him in this life, to call him a brother, to see his warm kind eyes and bright smile, or hear his infectious cackle of a laugh (I'm smiling now just thinking of it).

"I know people use this expression often when talking about folks they love...'they could light up any room they entered' but boy let me tell you, he was the best at it. I'd like to remember him that way.

"For all of the boundless light, love and joy he always managed to give us. I'll cherish every moment."
