"I got shot in the face and get to live the tale," Disney star Christy Carlson Romano shared with her fans.

It sounds like a scene straight out of Kim Possible - you know, the animated spy series that aired on Disney for four seasons, but unfortunately for 40-year-old voice actor of Kim, it was very much real life.

Romano, who is best known for playing Ren Stevens, the older sister of Shia LaBeouf's character in the hit naughties series Even Stevens, explained to her 746,000 followers on Instagram how the situation unfolded while she was clay pigeon shooting.

Uploading a video to her account on Sunday, she explained exactly what has happened in the caption: "Yesterday [February 8] was my husband’s birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present. There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face.

"@thebrendanrooney [Romano's husband] immediately sprung into action, assessed me, and rushed me to the hospital. I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye.

"Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment)."

It continued: "With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much.

"I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant."

Shotguns are typically used to shoot the clay targets, as pellets spread meaning which gives punters a better chance of hitting a moving target.

"So I got shot in the eye; it was not fun," Romano explains in the video uploaded to the social media platform , before letting out a large sigh. "I am safe. I got shot here [points to below her eye], it is still inside [points to the back of her eye], there's a fragment there.

"This fragment here [points to her forehead], we cleaned that out. I'm very grateful to first responders as a whole. I mean, they're just the most amazing superheroes - like people to take care of us at our most desperate times."

She continued: "And so I'm grateful to St David's South [the medical center she is receiving treatment at] here in Austin, this is really bad tonight.

"Everything's kind of clearing out... but I get to say, I got shot in the face and live to tell the tale. Be grateful for every day."
