
Michael Archer Jr., the son of R&B legends D'Angelo and Angie Stone, has spoken out after losing both of his parents in a matter of months.
D'Angelo, whose real name was Michael Eugene Archer, was confirmed to have died on October 14, when his family released a statement stating the 'shining star' of their family had 'dimmed his light for us in this life'.
"After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D’Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D’Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, October 14th, 2025," the family added.
D'Angelo had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and a source close to the family told People his son, Michael, had spent time at the hospital with his father.

"People are really worried about Mike right now," the source said, after adding that the 27-year-old had 'been through a lot in such a short amount of time'.
Just a few months before D'Angelo's death, Michael's mom, Stone, died on March 1, after being involved in a car crash. She was just 63 years old.
Michael has now spoken out in a statement after losing both of his parents, telling People he is 'grateful' for the thoughts and prayers he has received 'during these very difficult times'.

"It has been a very rough and sad year for me," he continued. "I ask that you please continue to keep me in your thoughts as it will not be easy, but one thing that both my parents taught me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that."

Michael's statement is just one of many that have come flooding in for D'Angelo in the wake of his death, with his family adding: "We are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time but invite you all join us in mourning his passing while also celebrating the gift of song that he has left for the world.”
Beyoncé Knowles also paid tribute to D'Angelo on her website, describing him as the 'pioneer of neo-soul'.

Throughout his musical career D'Angelo was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, as well as winning Best R&B Album and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
