Cillian Murphy responds to Matt Damon brutally calling him 'the worst dinner companion imaginable'

The two actors starred in Oppenheimer together

Apparently, Matt Damon thinks Cillian Murphy is the 'worst dinner companion imaginable' - and the Dunkirk actor understands why.

I have to say, if a friend of mine said I was a bad person to have a dinner date with I'd be a little bit offended, but Murphy completely understood where Damon was coming from.

The two Hollywood veterans starred in Oppenheimer together and, away from the camera, the pair are good friends.

While they're pals with one another, apparently Murphy isn't always the best person to hang around with...

Recently speaking with Scott Pelley, the 60 Minutes host shared what Damon said of the Peaky Blinders favorite as a dinner date and him allegedly being the 'worst'.

"What he meant by that was when you’re working on a film, when you’re being the character, there’s very little room in your head for anything else," Pelley said, defending Damon's remarks.

"I’ve always been like that, I think," Murphy replied.

"It’s because, to me, you have the time on set, which is a short enough time. You have 10 hours, maybe. And then the other part, if you’ve got a significant part, you’re having to keep your lines fresh."

And understandably, the 47-year-old is also a fan of his sleep.

"The other big thing for me is sleeping. I love sleeping and I need sleep," he added.

"At the time, yeah, you just don’t have the room, in your head and you want as much sleep as possible."

While his head is very much in the game while filming, Murphy insisted that since Oppenheimer wrapped he's 'had lots of lovely dinners with Matt Damon'.

Damon and their other Oppenheimer co-star Emily Blunt previously echoed similar sentiments about Murphy's lack of interactions with the cast during filming.

Jason Bourne star Damon said: "We invited Cillian to dinner every night, and he never went."

In a separate interview, Blunt also shared: "The sheer volume of what [Murphy] had to take on [for the role] and shoulder is so monumental. Of course, he didn’t want to come and have dinner with us."

It's said that Damon was actually going to take a break from acting, but then he got the call from Christopher Nolan.

He apparently 'negotiated extensively' with his wife about taking time off. However, in their negotiations Damon said: "The one caveat to my taking time off was if Chris Nolan called."

And he did.
