Celine Dion makes first public appearance in three years following incurable disease diagnosis

The singer made her first public appearance since being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome

Celine Dion has made her first public appearance in over three years amid being diagnosed Stiff Person Syndrome.

The 55-year-old has been privately living with the disease since she tearfully announced her diagnosis on social media in December 2022.

However, the 'My Heart Will Go On' hit-maker made a rare public appearance on Monday (30 October) at a hockey game in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dion was joined by her sons, René-Charles, 22, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 13, to watch the Montreal Canadiens take on the Vegas Golden Knights.

Footage from the event was posted online which showed Dion looking amazing, greeting fans and players in the locker rooms after the match.

Montreal’s Vice President of hockey communications Chantal Machabée shared photos of her and Dion on Instagram, captioning the post: “A great visit to our game in Vegas yesterday.

“Thank you, Celine Dion, for your generosity. The whole team was very happy to meet you and your family.”

The Grammy-winner has remained out of the public eye since her diagnosis with Stiff Person Syndrome - also called Moersch-Woltman Syndrome - last year. The disease is a rare neurological condition that gives people painful muscle spasms among other symptoms.

This diagnosis is what led the star to cancel her Courage World Tour earlier this year.

Taking to her Instagram to announce the devastating news, Dion wrote: “I'm so sorry to disappoint all of you once again.

“I'm working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you're 100%.

“It's not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it's best that we cancel everything now until I'm really ready to be back on stage again.

“I want you all to know, I'm not giving up and I can't wait to see you again!”

Dion’s sister, Linda, and her husband have allegedly moved into her home in Las Vegas to care for her.

Her other sister, Claudette, told the Le Journal de Montreal: “We can’t find any medicine that works, but having hope is important.”

She added: “I honestly think that she mostly needs to rest. She always goes above and beyond, she always tries to be the best and top of her game. At one point, your heart and your body are trying to tell you something. It’s important to listen to it.”
