Amanda Bynes explains heartbreaking reason why she's decided to start taking Ozempic

Amanda Bynes regularly updates her fans on Instagram

Amanda Bynes has explained in a new social media post why she's decided to start taking Ozempic.

Those whose childhoods were the 1990s and early 2000s will instantly recognise Bynes as the star of numerous hit children's TV shows, including the likes of All That, Figure It Out and Blue's Clues.

She also led her own spin-off series The Amanda Show from 1999 until 2002, but decided to quit Hollywood in 2010 after starring in popular teen comedies, such as What a Girl Wants, She's the Man and Hairspray.

When she began experiencing struggles with her mental health and legal issues in the years following, Bynes was placed under conservatorship in 2013, which concluded with her mother in March 2022.

Now, Bynes seemingly has her life back on track and isn't afraid to share what is going on in her life on Instagram. And in a recent Story, the former actor detailed the heartbreaking reason why she has decided to take Ozempic.

"I'm going on Ozempic," she began. "I'm so excited. I'm 173 [pounds] now, so I hope to get down to 130 [pounds], which would be awesome."

Ozempic, an injection marketed for people with Type-2 diabetes to help them manage their blood sugar levels, has become popular amongst those hoping to lose weight.

The brand name for a medicine called semaglutide, the drug was approved in 2017 by the US Food and Drug Aministration (FDA) to help diabetics, but some have been using it purely for weight loss as it suppresses appetite.

Ozempic is not approved by the FDA for weight loss in the US.

Bynes then revealed the sad reason she decided to start using the drug, stating: "So I hope I look better in paparazzi pictures, and you don't see my double chin from strange angles."

Since her controversial conservatorship was lifted in 2022, Bynes has been busy, including setting up her own OnlyFans page.

After that big day some three years ago, she thanked her fans for their love and support over the nine-year period of her life.

"Following today's decision by the judge to terminate my conservatorship, I would like to thank my fans for their love and well wishes during this time," she previously told PEOPLE.

"I would also like to thank my lawyer and my parents for their support over the last nine years."

The 39-year-old also teased upcoming projects, adding: "In the last several years, I have been working hard to improve my health so that I can live and work independently, and I will continue to prioritize my well-being in this next chapter.

"I am excited about my upcoming endeavors — including my fragrance line — and look forward to sharing more when I can."
