White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood has savage reaction to Sydney Sweeney discussing ‘disturbing’ jeans campaign

Sydney Sweeney appeared to double down by waiving away criticism of the 'racially insensitive' jeans ad

Aimee Lou Wood has had her say on what she thinks of Sydney Sweeney's controversial jeans campaign.

Back in the summer, Sweeney landed in hot water for her involvement in an American Eagle advert which critics said at the time appeared to celebrate the Euphoria star for her whiteness.

As per the Fall 2025 collection, the 28-year-old actor sported a double denim outfit while the tagline read: "Sydney Sweeney has great genes."

The word 'genes' was then crossed out and replaced with 'jeans'.

Fans were less than impressed with the phrasing, which they said, at best was insensitive and, at worst, an alleged nod to white supremacy, with many even drawing comparisons to the rhetoric used by Nazi Germany in the 1930s.

While Sweeney has kept tight-lipped amid the swirling controversy, in November she finally spilled the beans on her side of the story while in an interview with GQ which... didn't really help her save face.

Now, her The White Lotus co-star has revealed what she thinks about the debacle.

Although she didn't technically say a word, Wood said it all in the form of a simple emoji.

While Sweeney could be seen trying to explain the ad, Wood posted a single vomiting emoji in the comments.

The 31-year-old British star isn't the only one to have taken issue with Sweeney's apparent reasoning for taking on the ad, either.

Racing to social media, dozens said the Sweeney should have taken some degree of accountability over the blunder.

Instead, she appeared to laugh when GQ writer Katherine Stoeffel posed the question before explaining to the outlet: "I did a jean ad.

"I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt like every day of my life."

When GQ asked her 'what it was like' when President Donald Trump rushed to Sweeney's defense in the American Eagle jeans ad, she said it was 'surreal' but had tried to stay away from the discussion.

"I kind of just put my phone away," she explained. "I was filming every day. I’m filming Euphoria, so I’m working 16-hour days and I don’t really bring my phone on set, so I work and then I go home and I go to sleep. So I didn’t really see a lot of it."

Stoeffel pressed her further on the ad itself, asking her if she wanted to say anything about the criticism that 'white people shouldn't joke about genetic superiority'.

"I think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear," she bluntly replied.

Much like the American Eagle ad, her interview has appeared to go down like a lead balloon among fans who have called her response 'tone deaf' and 'smug'.

"Presuming that you are not a white supremacist, at least say how horrified you were by how this campaign was amplified and celebrated by unrepentant racists who believe in eugenics," celebrity photographer Misan Harriman said on Instagram.

"At least recognise the harm your jeans campaign has caused black folk, the undertone of the campaign is that your genetics are superior to others, the play on words is clear as day and racists LOVED it!

"So, presuming you didn’t know when you shot it, you certainly do now, and it matters. This ain't it!"

Others agreed with Wood's vomit emoji, as many dubbed Wood a 'real one' for being 'not afraid of saying the right things out loud'.

UNILAD has contacted representatives of Sweeney for comment.
