The story behind Jason Momoa’s eyebrow scar landed someone in prison

Fans of Jason Momoa have been left gobsmacked by the story of how the actor got his facial scar.

Fans of Jason Momoa have been left gobsmacked by the story of how the actor got his facial scar.

The Aquaman star wasn't born with the scar, which can be spotted slicing through his eyebrow, nor did he gain it from facing a dark lord like Voldemort in his early years.

Instead, the scar was imprinted on the actor's Hollywood face as Momoa began making his way into more widely recognised films.

The story behind it? Fans can't believe their ears.

As a strapping 6ft 5inch actor who has since taken on the role of a DC superhero, it's hard to imagine why anyone would have wanted to, let alone have gotten close enough to land a slash on Momoa's left eyebrow.

However, in November 2008, while at Birds restaurant in Los Angeles, Hollywood, Momoa came face-to-face with a man named Dominic Bando.

Momoa believes the incident which ensued between himself and Bando was part of a 'gang initiation'.

Momoa reflected on the whole situation as 'crazy,' telling Access Hollywood: "A guy smashed a pint glass in my face."

The pint glass resulted in an injury which saw Momoa need 'little over 140 stitches'.

However, the actor believes the scar has worked to his advantage to some degree.

Momoa previously told the New York Post he had always been called a 'pretty boy,' but the gaining of his eyebrow slit scar has helped him branch away from the 'pretty boy' look and helped the actor 'get those mean roles'.

And Momoa's certainly not wrong there, having becoming known for his roles as Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo in HBO hit Game of Thrones and the hulking superhero title character of Aquaman (2018).

Momoa may have been left with a scar but he's also had the last laugh, his attacker having been charged with assault with a deadly weapon according to NBC Los Angeles and sentenced to five years in prison despite a not-guilty plea.

Bando didn't get off scot-free from the brawl either, requiring 15 stitches on four hand injuries.

Although, the price of a scarier exterior has resulted in no hair growing over that part of Momoa's eyebrow anymore.

"I got my wife beforehand, so… if she doesn’t like it, too bad," the actor joked. "She likes it."

While Momoa's wife may not have much of a say in the matter, the actor's fans have flocked to Twitter to respond to the story of how he got his eyebrow slit.

One wrote: "i’m in charge of telling everyone that jason momoa got the scar on his face from a fight at birds on franklin. BIRDS."

"I just found out that Jason Momoa got the scar on his eyebrow at f**king Birds on Franklin, and I just needed to tell everyone I know that," another said.

A third commented: "I need his birds takes. is he a rotisserie a la carte kind of guy? seems like he would house a whole chicken and say, 'I don’t mess with the sauces'."
