Fans have been defending Emilia Clarke after she was cruelly targeted by online trolls for a truly terrible reason.

The Game of Thrones actress shared selfie last week on Instagram and almost immediately found herself being bombarded in the comments.

However, her fans have hit back at the haters across social media with photo quickly gaining over 2.4 million likes as they have defended Clarke in the comments.

The selfie showed the star in her kitchen with a mug that read “You're doing f***ing great”.

In the caption, she explained why shared the snap, saying: "Mum got me a mug. I felt it was important to share this newfound wisdom. Use it and reap the rewards”.

Almost instantly, however, the star was set upon by misogynistic trolls who targeted her because of her supposedly diminishing looks.

The trolling has mainly been on Twitter, with users writing comments like: "Mother of dragons what happened to you."

Others quickly began to follow, with another adding: "What’s happening with those hairs, they’re worse than mine right now."

In one particularly horrendous tweet, a user wrote: "Lmao wow Daenerys Targaryen didn’t just hit the wall she flew into it full speed on a dragon."

However, many of the Me Before You actror’s fans have come to her defence after she shared the unaltered selfie online.

This included fellow Game of Thrones actor Iain Glen, who adorably wrote: "Love you" in the comments.

The sweet moment by the actor, who played Ser Jorah Mormont in the hit HBO show, was later echoed by other fans.

One wrote a lengthy defence of Clarke, which read: “Emilia Clarke automatically wins any argument against her because I don’t know a single female content enough in her life to post an unedited kitchen selfie with severe overhead lighting”.

Many joined in with one fan writing calling for users to ‘do better’ and wrote: “Um are you kidding me? She’s still got it, always will have it, and won’t ever lose it even when she gets older….. Do better.”

Others commented on the actor’s recent illness, saying how incredible she looked considering how dangerous her condition had been: “So people are really trying to bully Emilia Clarke for looking bad? Do those fools understand what all she has been through medically? Not to mention she looks great..”

In fact, Clarke looks incredible considering she nearly lost her life.

Clarke suffered from two brain aneurysms in 2011 and 2013, both of which were life threatening.

Despite months of recovery, she has still pursued her acting career and even made light of about how her brain has been altered by the damaged blood vessels.

She told the BBC’s Sunday Morning: "The amount of my brain that is no longer usable - it’s remarkable that I am able to speak, sometimes articulately, and live my life completely normally with absolutely no repercussions.

"I am in the really, really, really small minority of people that can survive that," she added.

So bow down haters, Queen Emilia ruling over everyone’s hearts.
