An AI expert has issued a stark warning about how the massive changes the technology will have on white-collar human work within the next year.

Advancements in artificial intelligence in recent years has meant businesses have pushed to incorporate it into different facets of their work. But with this change, there have been redundancies as businesses look to take advantage of the new tech and potentially save money.

Many people have spoken out about AI; both Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates shared warnings regarding it, while people like Elon Musk are already using it within their ventures.

There are fears felt by the public that more jobs and industries could be on the chopping block for humans. We’ve only felt the tip of the iceberg so far.

One person who believes there will be more seismic shifts for human jobs in the near future is Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman, who says AI will reach ‘human-level performance’ in white-collar work. These fields include banking, finance, risk management, internal audit, insurance, accountancy and more.

Suleyman believes more tasks in this particular field will become automated, as part of the widespread adoption of the technology in the workplace. In an interview with the Financial Times, he shared the daunting prediction that most, if not all work tasks in white-collar fields will become AI-powered.

"I think that we're going to have a human-level performance on most, if not all, professional tasks," he said. “So white-collar work, where you're sitting down at a computer, either being a lawyer or an accountant or a project manager or a marketing person — most of those tasks will be fully automated by an AI within the next 12 to 18 months.”

How fast is the shift to AI happening? You can already see it in software engineering, for which employees are using “AI-assisted coding for the vast majority of their code production.”

Suleyman explained: “It’s a quite different relationship to technology, and that’s happened int the last six months.”

This statement comes as some AI experts warned that AI, despite having benefits to improve our day-to-day lives, will wipe out entire workforces. A recent study revealed the 44 jobs most likely to be replaced by AI which came about after Bill Gates shared his thoughts on the three fields he believes will get the chop first. Software developers, private investigators, and sales managers are on the list, along with compliance officers, mechanical engineers, and even lawyers.

Bill Gates shared his thoughts on what jobs he think will survive the advancement of AI for now, with the tech mogul picking out coders, energy experts, and biologists.

Conversely, Data and administration jobs, customer service, and those in assembly line could be first to face the brunt of the controversial, world-shifting technology.
