Assassin's Creed is heading somewhere fans have always called for as developer Ubisoft announces a string of new games coming to the franchise.
The trailer - which was revealed at the Assassin's Creed showcase yesterday (10 September) - gave a glimpse of an Assassin in the shadows, see if you can work out where the game will be set:
Fans of the series have requested a Japan setting for many years and Ubisoft have granted them their wish.
Assassin's Creed Codename Red - which will not be its final name - follows the open-world RPG direction the franchise have taken since 2017 with Assassin's Creed Origins.

Development on the game is being led by Ubisoft Quebec; the studio that led the Ancient Greece setting of Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
Codename Red will be part of Assassin's Creed Infinity, a hub-like system where all new Assassin's Creed games will be integrated.

Ubisoft announced Infinity will allow them to explore multiplayer options again for the first time since 2014 with Assassin's Creed Unity.

No release date was provided for this anticipated setting but the game going to Japan is not the only announcement coming out of the franchise.
Ubisoft also revealed Assassin's Creed Mirage - which is set to release in 2023.
Mirage is promised to take the franchise 'back to its roots' where stealth and action-adventure gameplay take the center stage once again.
The game is set in Baghdad in the ninth century and follows Basim - a character in 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla, as he goes from street thief to master assassin.

Also announced at the Assassin's Creed showcase was the final add-on content for Assassin's Creed Valhalla known as The Last Chapter.
It will be free add-on for all players and is expected to release later this year.

Next, the French company announced a mobile game Assassin's Creed Codename Jade - which is a mobile only game.

And finally, the company also announced a game that is even further away than the Feudal Japan title, that being Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe.
Less details are known about this game and the short teaser trailer is currently being dissected by fans for every detail.
Like the Feudal Japan game, Codename Hexe will be part of Assassin's Creed Infinity.
Ubisoft has confirmed Codename Hexe is in development at its Montreal office and is being led by veteran game designer Clink Hocking.

The Ubisoft developer is known for Far Cry, Splinter Cell, and most recently, the London-set Watch Dogs: Legion.
