NASA astronaut shares exactly how much they get paid in a very blunt three–word statement

Being a NASA astronaut may not be as lucrative as you'd imagine

A NASA astronaut has shared exactly how much she gets paid working for the Florida-based space agency.

I can imagine saying that you work for NASA is a bit of a flex, so you can see why people would decide to get into the sector for a career.

But while having a true passion for something is always good when it comes to deciding what you want to do with your life, you of course want to earn a good salary on top of that.

And while you may be forgiven for thinking working for NASA must be a lucrative career choice, according to one astronaut who previously worked for the space agency, it isn't quite what it seems.

Nicole Stott, who is a retired NASA astronaut, engineer and aquanaut, spoke to LADbible about the job and shared how much she earned with a blunt three-word response.

Stott certainly had an impressive career with NASA, having flown on two expeditions and spent over 100 days in space. She also helped launched the STS-128 mission and spent three months living inside the International Space Station.

The former NASA employee was asked by LADbible how much astronauts get compensated for their service, to which she responded: "Not a lot. Government civil servant. You don’t become an astronaut to get paid a lot of money.”

NASA says the average annual salary for astronauts at the space agency is $152,258, though that can vary depending on education and level of experience.

So now that's been cleared up, Stott was asked whether or not it’s possible to have sex in space, because of course that's the burning question everyone has on their minds.

"Probably. I don’t think there’s anything that would physically prevent you from having sex in space," she told LADbible.

“I don’t know that anybody has while they were there, I did not.

“And if somebody wants to have sex in space, I think they’ll figure out how to have sex in space.”

Stott was also asked whether there is a speed limit in space, to which the former astronaut replied: “You know, I don’t think there really is a speed limit. I mean, there might be, but I don’t think there is. And you know, Newton was right with all these laws of motion and stuff, you know, you get it going and it’s gonna keep moving until something stops it."
