Woman who travels to work by plane every single day because it's cheaper than living in city reveals cost of rent

It could certainly add up over time...

A woman has revealed the price difference in rent which led her to decide to commute every day by plane rather than living in the city.

AirAsia worker Racheal Kaur doesn't commute to work by foot, bus or train like many of us, instead, checking in at an airport, going through security and boarding a plane - twice-a-day, every day Monday to Friday.

The mom decided to buy a house in Penang, Malaysia and commute to Kuala Lumpar via plane rather than living in the city itself, and she's since opened up about the cost difference and other reasons which impacted her choice.

Breaking down her daily routine, the mom explains: "Usually, I’m up around 4.00am, 4.10am, 4.15am at the latest. And then, I am showered, dressed, and I leave my home by 5.00am.

"And then I take a slow drive to the airport, boarding is at 5.55am, so it gives me plenty of time to, you know, park my car, put on my shoes, walk over, get myself boarded, check into the flight, sit down."

The flight typically takes 30-40 minutes and Rachael's work is just a five minute walk from the airport, meaning she gets into work at around 7.45am and returns home in the evenings at around 7.00pm.

But why did she decide to live in a different city to her work and commute by plane?

Rachael pays for her flights but notes she does receive an employee discount and explains the rent in Penang is cheaper than Kuala Lumpar too.

According to the mom, her mortgage in Penang comes to around MYR 1,000 (around $224) whereas in Kuala Lumpur she'd be paying MYR 1,500 (around $336) and not only this, but her commute means she feels like she's able to spend more time with her kids.

She says traveling by plane and then the office being a short walk away allows her to skip out on any potential traffic jams in Kuala Lumpar.

The mom notes her eldest child is 12 and her other daughter 11 and she feels like they 'need their mother to be around more often'.

She resolves: "I'm able to go home every day, I'm able to see my kids at night, and help out with any last-minute homework."

And it's not just Rachael who's chosen to commute by plane either, in 2023, a TikToker revealing she decided to travel by plane and then taxi to her internship because it was cheaper than renting in the New York City or New Jersey.
