A chilling simulation has detailed what would happen if Russia and the US were to go to war, and how many people would die as a result.

Donald Trump said prior to being elected as the 47th POTUS that he would end the war in Ukraine within his first 24 hours back in office, but it's been a lot more complicated than that.

Nearly four years after Russia invaded Ukraine, the war seems no closer to a conclusion after US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's senior advisor and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, visited the Kremlin earlier this week and were locked into a five-hour discussion.

Vladimir Putin has since gone on and warned that Russia is 'ready' to fight, should a war arise in Europe.

As the fighting continues, the worry of a nuclear war, while at this stage still unrealistic, remains at the forefront of a lot of people's minds.

A video released by Princeton University some six years ago documented what could happen in the event both Russia and the US used nuclear weapons.

The simulation explains how Russia would launch a nuclear warning shot in the hopes of bringing a halt to a US-Nato advance. Subsequently, Nato retaliates with a single 'tactical nuclear air strike'.

Soon after, a nuclear war is present in Europe with Russia firing over 300 nuclear warheads via aircraft and short-range missiles to hit Nato bases, as well as advancing troops.

At this point, a staggering 2.6 million people have lost their lives, and as the fighting continues, it reaches the point where the entirety of Europe has been destroyed.

The video then states Nato would launch 600 warheads from the US aimed at Russian nuclear forces, which leads to another 3.4 million casualties.

"Before losing its weapon systems, Russia launches on warning, responding with missiles launched from silos, road-mobile vehicles and submarines," the viral video explained.

It then gets to the point where both Russia and Nato target each other's 30 most populated cities, leading to a further 85.3 million deaths.

Come 'The Countervalle Plan', some 91 million further casualties were expected as the video explained: "Number of immediate casualties, including fatalities (34.1 million) and injuries (57.4 million), resulting from the series of nuclear exchanges. Deaths from nuclear fallout and other long-term effects would significantly increase this estimate."

So, there we have it - now we know what will happen in the event of nuclear war breaking out in Europe.

Fingers crossed it doesn't become a reality, eh.
