Prince Andrew's next steps have been revealed as he's stripped of his royal title and residence.

On Thursday (October 30), King Charles III made a bombshell announcement that his brother has been formally stripped of his Duke of York and HRH titles.

Essentially, it means Prince Andrew's role in public has been switched to that of a commoner, meaning he will be known as simply Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

The removal came amid mounting public and political pressure over his taxpayer-subsidized lifestyle after the disgraced royal stepped down from duties in 2019.

It also comes following fresh scrutiny over his connection to the late convicted pedophile, Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide at the age of 66 in his prison cell while awaiting trial in August 2019.

Epstein's accuser Virginia Giuffre alleged she was paid $15,000 to have sex with the prince when she was just 17 years old - an allegation Andrew has continued to deny.

What did the Royal Family say?

While Andrew has 'vigorously' denied any wrongdoing, he relinquished his titles earlier this month based on what he said were 'continued accusations' that 'distract me from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.'

Now, Buckingham Palace has 'initiated a formal process' to strip the 65-year-old from his titles.

In a statement on Thursday (October 30), the Royal Family said: "His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew."

What does losing his title mean?

As the statement revealed, Prince Andrew will 'now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.'

It is reported Andrew did not object to the King's decision to remove his titles.

His birth certificate does not need to be changed.

Instead, the raft of titles he loses are: Prince, Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, Baron Killyleagh.

As for honors, Order of the Garter and Knight Grand Cross of the Victorian Order will be stripped.

He will also no longer be referred to as His Royal Highness.

The King will now send Royal warrants to the Lord Chancellor, David Lammy, to officially remove them.

What about Royal Lodge?

Buckingham Palace also revealed the loss of his royal status has implications for his residence at Royal Lodge.

"His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.

"Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.

"Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse."

Where will he live?

Now that he's been booted out of his estate, Andrew's specific housing arrangements are yet to be formally revealed.

However, he won't exactly face life on the streets, and instead will likely relocate to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, which spans approximately 20,000 acres.

The move is said to take place 'as soon as practicable.'

His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, 66, is also being made to move out of Royal Lodge. It is understood she will make separate living arrangements.

Will the King pay for him?

Andrew's new residence will likely be privately funded by the King as well as other 'appropriate private provision' for him.

This means it will take some pressure off the public purse.

It comes as Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) scrutinized the 'value for money' of the Duke’s taxpayer-subsidized life.

The committee said there was 'considerable and understandable public interest in the spending of public money' relating to Andrew.

Andrew won't be destitute though, as he created his own independent sources of income since leaving royal duties in 2019 through various business connections.

How did Virginia Giuffre's accusation play a part?

While the 41-year-old Epstein accuser tragically died by suicide at her home in Australia in April this year, her bombshell memoir hit shelves earlier this month.

Nobody's Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice documented her sexual abuse at the hands of Epstein.

In the novel, she claims she met Prince Andrew in March 2001 and was pressured by Epstein's partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, to 'do for him what you do for Jeffrey.'

She claims she had sex with Andrew on three separate occasions, all of which he denies.

Giuffre's family are now rejoicing over the Royal Family's decision, claiming she 'brought down a British prince with her truth and extraordinary courage'.

Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in conspiring with the late financier to sexually abuse minors.

Although Andrew denies all the accusations, the Royal Family said there has been some 'serious lapses of judgement' in his behavior.

Emails from 2011 also came to the surface this month, which appeared to show Andrew in touch with Epstein, months after he alleged their contact had ended.

What will happen now?

Andrew will be formally removed from all royal duties and public life, including royal events.

His attendance will be limited to private, family events, such as funerals or memorials.

How many times have members of the Royal Family lost titles?

Royal historian Kate Williams told Sky News that it was a 'huge moment in world history' since only a handful of others have had their prestigious titles removed.

The daughters of Henry VII, Mary I and Elizabeth I were stripped of their royal titles and succession to the throne after their mothers' marriages to the King were annulled, thus rendering them illegitimate children and stripped of Princess titles.

Others were also removed as per the Titles Deprivation Act 1917, relating to British royals who fought with the German army during the First World War, including British-German Duke, Prince Charles Edward, who became a member of the Nazi party and renounced all affiliation with the UK.

Prince Ernest Augustus likewise was removed for siding with Germany, as was Henry, Viscount Taaffe of Corren, who took up arms against the UK in the war.
