A major car manufacturer has just recalled hundreds of thousands of their most popular vehicles due to a possible serious fault.
American Honda has announced it is recalling more than 400,000 vehicles due to a manufacturing error in a batch of aluminum alloy wheels that could make them come loose and 'fall off'.
The company warns the wheel nuts could come loose while driving and detach, a problem which is of major concern to federal regulators who fear it could cause drivers to lose control and possibly even crash and sustain injuries.
The recall applies to one of its most popular models, Honda Civics, with owners now encouraged to get their wheels urgently inspected.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the recall covers specific Civic models, made between 2016 through to 2021.

In a press release, Honda said: "American Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 406,000 model-year 2016-2021 Honda Civic vehicles in the U.S. to inspect a limited number of accessory wheels (3,276 units) that were sold in the U.S. and may have been improperly manufactured.
"Due to a manufacturing process error by a supplier, the steel lug seat inserts in aluminum accessory wheels may not have been installed (pressed) into the nut seating surface.
"During normal vehicle operation, the lug nut seating surface may deform, which could cause the wheel nuts to loosen and detach. This could result in the wheel separating from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash or injury."
Honda says owners can take their vehicles to get checked out for free at Honda dealerships.
If the wheels do need to be replaced, the dealers will do so at no extra expense to the owner.
According to The Independent, owners can also anticipate a letter notifying them of the error next month.
The company added: "American Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for inspection as soon as they receive notification. Owners of these vehicles can also determine if their vehicles require inspection by visiting www.recalls.honda.com, or by calling (888) 234-2138."

The recall comes as Honda isn't the only manufacturer to have had issues this year, with a total of 25.8 million vehicles being called so far.
Ford recalled 227,006 vehicles in the US due to windshield air bubbles and front seat fastening issues just last month, affecting its Bronco SUVs and Lincoln and Explorer vehicles.
Another 6,909 Econoline vans were also recalled due to an issue with its defogging and defrosting system.
Meanwhile, Toyota has recalled more than a million cars as a result of a software error affecting the rear-view camera, concerning Lexus and Subaru Solterra cars made from 2022 to 2026.
