A police officer who spent years tracking down her father's killer had a chilling eight-word message to the culprit when she finally arrested him.

Gislayne Silva de Deus was just nine years old when her father Givaldo José Vicente de Deus was brutally murdered by Raimundo Gomes in 1999 over a reported $66 debt.

Gomes shot the man in the head with a pistol and fled the scene shortly after.

Gislayne was the eldest of her siblings, who were all left orphaned following their father's death.

Warrants for Gomes' arrest were issued in the years that followed, but justice was still waiting to be served.

With him being on the loose in mind, Gislayne dedicated her life to bringing down her late father's murderer.

First, she studied as a lawyer, and then went on to join the police force last year.

Gislayne requested that she was assigned to the homicide division and has now arrested Gomes.

Gomes was finally taken into custody last month, giving Gislayne the chance to confront her father's killer.

The 60-year-old man had been hiding out in Nova Cidade neighborhood, Boa Vista, Brazil.

Speaking to Gomes, Gislayne said: "It’s because of me that you are here."

She added that he was 'going to pay' for his crimes.

Gomes had already been sentenced to 12 years behind bars by the Jury Court of the Court of Justice of Roraima for murder after a trial took place while Gomes was still a fugitive.

Despite the crime taking place in 1999, an arrest warrant reportedly wasn't issued until 2016.

Speaking after his arrest, Gislayne said: "With his arrest, I cleansed my soul and that of my entire family. It was the end of a cycle. Today we have peace and the feeling that justice was served."

She also admitted that she was overcome with emotion when she finally saw Gomes in custody.

She told Brazilian website G1: "When I saw the man who was responsible for my dad's death was finally in handcuffs, I couldn't hold back the tears. It was an explosion of feelings that turned into tears of relief, as it seemed like this day would never come."

Gislayne further described her late father as 'a loving and hard-working man'.
