A man has died and a woman's been left fighting for her life after being electrocuted in a hot tub.

A married couple from Texas were holidaying in Mexico at the time of the freak accident.

They were staying at Sonoran Sea Resort, with the tragic ordeal occurring on Tuesday, June 11.

The couple have since been named as Jorge Guillen, 43, and Lizette Zambrano, 35, from El Paso.

People at the hotel became concerned when they noted Jorge and Lizette not moving in the hot tub.

Jorge tragically died as a result of the incident, while Lizette was rushed off to a US hospital near the border and reportedly remains in critical condition.

CCTV footage showed a fellow holidaygoer attempt to give the couple CPR before emergency services arrived at the scene.

"As I woke up this morning we received a message from our best friend’s mom. A message you don’t want to wake up to," she wrote.

"As many of you have seen on social media and the news, a tragic event happened.

"I will not go into detail here. It would be greatly appreciated if you all could donate to help get Jorge home and help with medical expenses. Lizette has a ways to go in recovery and we are all here to help her through."

Harrowing video footage has been circulating online of the incident where a body is seen submerged in in the hot tub while fellow guests looked on in horror.
