It seems that no one is safe when it comes to Donald Trump's new tariffs - not even penguins.

The POTUS recently announced a series of taxes on almost all countries across the globe, with Mexico and Canada being exempt from the newly imposed taxes because they're already embroiled in their own separate 'trade war' with America.

Trump supposedly wants to 'Make America Wealthy Again' by bringing in his new taxes, but US citizens are going to be financially impacted by the change as well as others from around the world.

But it's not just people that will be impacted as Trump seemingly wants to become the first ever president to make animals pay tax.

In the very, very long list of areas Trump is imposing new taxes on is the Heard Island and McDonald Islands, an external Australian territory in the Antarctic.

The Trump administration is bringing in 10 percent tariffs on what's been dubbed as 'one of the most remote places on Earth' that has no imports or exports... or people. The only living things on barren Antarctic islands are penguins and seals.

The news has a left a lot of people scratching their heads as to why Trump would bother taxing the Heard and McDonald Islands that, combined, are only slightly larger that Philadelphia, says Business Insider.

Many have discussed the unusual move from the Trump administration and poked fun at it all.

Someone joked: "Those penguins have been mooching off the US for long enough. Their reign of terror has come to end."

Taking inspiration from JD Vance's comments to President Zelenskyy during his disastrous visit to the White House in February, another person on Reddit said: "Did the penguins say thank you even once?"

A third wrote: "Now Trump will have penguins angry at the United States? No one wants penguins angry with you. Look at what happened with Wallace and Gromit."

Someone else bantered: "Why stop at tariffs? I'm thinking war against the penguins."

Pretending to quote the president, a different person penned: "Look, I love penguins. Everybody loves penguins. They’re wearing little tuxedos - very classy, very sharp. But here’s the thing - they’re not paying their fair share. Nobody talks about it!

"They’re down there in Antarctica, sliding around, eating all the fish - our fish, by the way - and what are they giving back? Nothing. Not even a handshake! So I said, maybe it’s time we put a tariff on penguins."

Take a bow, Redditors.
