Nail-biting footage has resurfaced online of a car executing a shocking cliff-edge U-turn; though some further digging reveals a slightly different story.

The video was first shared in December last year on YouTube and appears to show a driver pulling off a U-turn on an extremely narrow mountain road.

It's a painstaking watch. At points, it looks as though the vehicle will fall right off the edge, but despite all odds – and what resulted in about a 26 point turn – the driver completed the manoeuvre unscathed.

Understandably, the shocking clip exploded online. Over on Twitter, it's been watched a staggering 1.8 million times, with many praising the driver's skill and bravery for attempting such a dangerous move.

Check it out:

'Me trying to turn my life around', joked one user, while another simply said, 'Whoooaaaaa!' 'Someone give him a bravery award please', a third wrote.

Meanwhile, a fourth commented, 'Sometimes people are healthy and happy, but they have to find creative ways to put that in jeopardy.'

News outlets also picked up on the footage, with the Mirror branding the driver as a 'daredevil' and describing the clip as 'hair-raising'.

However, it appears there's a slightly different story behind the viral footage. According to NDTV, the clip was first posted online in December last year by DrivingSkill. From the start, it's made clear this is no ordinary driver but an expert showing viewers how to execute the tricky manoeuvre.

Of course, regardless of the who the driver is, there's no doubt that cliff is terrifying to look at. Except, there's no cliffside at all – there's actually another road underneath that had been cleverly covered up by the camera.

So, there you have it. It's amazing what people can pull off with the right camera angle. That being said, I don't think this is something I'll be trying any time soon – cliff or no cliff.
