Warning: This article contains discussion of incest, which some readers may find distressing.

An 18-year-old woman went into shocking detail about what it was like to date her own biological father.

The woman, who was not named, spoke to The Cut about how she had knowingly started a romantic relationship with her father.

Surprisingly, feelings of attraction between long-lost blood relatives may not be as uncommon as you might think, according to an article in The Guardian.

Some experts have estimated that around 50 percent of cases of estranged blood relatives being reunited as adults see romantic attraction.

It could be because the newly reunited relatives mistake being 'drawn' to one another for a romantic attraction, though not much research has been conducted into the phenomenon.

Rarer still is a consensual relationship between a father and a daughter, with any children resulting from the relationship also facing difficulties.

One 18-year-old woman shared how she had started a relationship with her father after not seeing him for 12 years.

Speaking to The Cut, the woman from the Great Lakes region in the US described the moment they were reunited.

"It was so weird and confusing," she said. "I was seeing my dad for the first time in forever but it was also like, 'He’s so good-looking!' And then I was like, 'What the hell are you thinking? What is wrong with you?'"

She added: "I saw him as my dad but then also part of me was like, 'I’m meeting this guy who I have been talking to over the internet and really connecting with and I find him attractive.'"

The woman described that she realised she was attracted to her dad after they had slept on the floor as she got nervous sleeping in new places.

She said that the fourth night they shared the room, they were 'spooning' when they woke up.

In the interview she also dismissed any concerns about the relationship being abusive.

"When you are 18, you know what you want," she said. "You’re an adult under the law and you’re able to consent. I can take care of myself. I don’t need protection.

"If I were in a situation where I needed to get out, I would. I’m not afraid to defend myself."

The pair are even planning a wedding, though they will not be legally registered due to the incestuous nature of their relationship.

She also shared that the pair do have plans to have children together, which would make her dad the children's father and grandfather.

As for whether they would tell the children, she said: "We’ve decided that most likely we won’t. I don’t want to give them any problems."

Concerns about genetic problems also didn't bother her, with the 18-year-old comparing it to people passing on things like cancer risk and heart disease.

She said: "I wouldn’t risk having a kid if I thought it would be harmful. I’ve done my research."
