US singer quickly requests a divorce after ‘unknowingly’ marrying a Malaysian sultan

Brittany Porter said she wants a 'proper divorce' after marrying Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan

A US singer has issued a plea for a divorce after she says she didn’t know she married a Malaysian sultan.

Brittany Porter, who sings under the name Brook Lynn, is demanding a ‘proper divorce’ after she revealed how a ceremony turned out to be a wedding.

Porter, 30, revealed all to the South China Post, claiming to have met Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan, the former King of Malaysia, via mutual friends in January 2024.

Muhammad V has been the 29th sultan of Kelantan since 2010 and was also the king of Malaysia from 2016 to 2019, until he abdicated the throne.

He was first married to Tengku Zubaidah binti Tengku Norudin, from 2004 to 2008.

Then in 2010, he married Sultanah Nur Diana Petra and then married Russian beauty queen Oxana Andreevna Voevodina in 2018.

He and Voevodina divorced a year later after she welcomed a baby boy, and the sultan denied his paternity.

Six years later, he met Porter and sparks began to fly.

“We had this instant chemistry and good banter,” she said. “We were just friends at first, but we started talking every day and the next thing you know.”

The two began to travel all over Asia, where he forked out the payments to bring her friends along too.

“He flew me and my friends all around the world. He was so generous, the nicest hotels, giving my friends the best treatment, experiences and gifts,” Porter alleged. “He loves hotels, he probably spent millions on them for our trips.”

Then, in April of last year, the 56-year-old popped the question before a trip to the Middle East.

“He asked if I wanted to go on holiday in Oman with him... it felt like I was in a real Disney princess movie,” she told the Daily Mail. “He proposed right after that, and he got me a blue diamond, because I said I wanted it to match my eyes.”

However, it was there that a religious ceremony was held, which she had assumed was just a celebration of their engagement.

“In my culture, the big ceremony is a wedding, which we planned for January 2025. So I was confused,” explained to the South China Post. “They brought an imam out and I did the whole conversion, but he didn’t teach me all that much about Islam… I only recently learned that a nikah constitutes a marriage under Islamic law.”

At this point, she was a now a married woman, despite not having reached her planned wedding.

When they returned to Malaysia, she further alleged that she was expected to get pregnant with a male ‘heir’, but sadly miscarried.

After their loss, she claims they began to fight a lot, but she pushed through with their wedding plans.

After traveling to the US to meet with a wedding planner, she said he was ‘being distant with me and I was freaking out so I flew back to Malaysia’.

But when she got there, he was nowhere to be found, and had reportedly ‘blocked’ her.

Instead of clarifying to her where he was and what was happening, she said he ‘just texted my best friend saying it wasn’t going to work out’ and she hasn’t heard from him since.

Now, she says she wants a ‘proper divorce.’

“I feel like this behavior is a pattern for him,” Porter said. “I fell for his trap.”
