Police hunting for dad accused of killing three daughters share sad update on search

Travis Decker has been at large for almost two months

Police have given an disappointing update on their search for Travis Decker.

Decker is wanted in connection to the deaths of his three daughters: Olivia, five, Evelyn, eight, and Paityn, nine.

The father picked up his children on May 30 from his ex wife's house as part of a planned visit.

But Decker never returned the three girls home and the day they went out with their dad was the last time their mom, Whitney Decker, saw them.

Whitney reported the girls missing and in a devastating update shortly after it was confirmed that the bodies Olivia, Evelyn, and Paityn had been found at the Rock Island Campground in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.

Their father was nowhere to be seen however, and police said he's been on the run every since.

The girls' cause of death is believed to be asphyxiation and Decker has since been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.

Decker has been at large ever since his daughter's deaths which has sparked a nation-wide manhunt for the 32-year-old. So far police searches have proven unsuccessful.

Now police have given an update on the search and revealed that they're scaling it back.

It was announced on Friday (July 25) that while the search for Decker will continue, law enforcement will have a 'reduced footprint while the criminal investigation remains ongoing', ABC News reports.

The decision comes after a reduce in leads and tips into Decker's whereabouts, but detectives are still 'actively engaged in processing evidence and will continue to follow up' on any new information about Decker.

It's unclear if Decker is even still alive. Washington authorities said in a statement, as per PEOPLE: "As of today [July 25], Mr. Decker has still not been located, and there is insufficient information to suggest that he is alive, nor if he is deceased."

The most recent search for the suspected murderer was the Blewett Pass area in the Wenatchee Mountains. However, officials said 'potential evidence and intelligence gathered in this area are inconclusive, meaning we cannot confirm any of the information is directly associated with Mr. Decker'.

No matter how long it takes, Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison says law enforcement is 'committed' to finding Decker.

"We could be in a fight for five years, 10 years, 20 years. I certainly hope we're looking at a couple weeks and it closes out, but it could be a long time and we are committed to staying with it," Morrison told ABC News.

The US Marshals Service is currently offering a $20,000 reward for any information that leads directly to Decker's arrest.

People are urged to call 911 if they spot the wanted father-of-three.
