Three teenagers have lost their lives while on spring break.

Four students from Massachusetts were in Florida for spring break when tragedy struck on Monday (April 21).

The car crash occurred at around 9:30pm on the day in question, when the vehicle carrying four teenagers crashed into a tractor-trailer making a U-turn that was being driven by a 19-year-old.

Three people have died in the ordeal, with Florida Highway Patrol naming Jimmy McIntosh, Hannah Wasserman, and Maisey O'Donnell, a state diving champion, as the deceased. All were thought to be aged 18.

It's reported that McIntosh was the one driving when the SUV crashed.

A fourth student, who has not been named by the authorities, survived the incident but is in critical condition.

The teens involved in the crash were students at Concord-Carlisle High School, says CBS News. Addressing their untimely deaths, Superintendent Dr Laurie Hunter said in statement on Tuesday: "We are very appreciative of the outpouring of love during what is absolutely heartbreaking. We also appreciate the wish to feel purposeful and not helpless.

"At this time, it is most appropriate that no action be taken to honor the students without the full consent of the families and appropriate support for so many young people facing unfathomable loss."

Police are investigating the matter and found that McIntosh was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. It's unclear if Wasserman, O'Donnell and the other student were, however.

The teen driving the other vehicle isn't thought to have sustained any injuries.

Following their deaths, Wasserman's family have created a GoFundMe page to help raise money for the high school senior's funeral. At the time of writing, over $8,500 has been donated.

While Florida Highway Patrol say the students were 18, the GoFundMe page set up for Wasserman said she was 17 at the time of her death.

"We are heartbroken to share the devastating loss of Hannah Wasserman, who tragically passed away in a car accident while on spring break in Florida," the fundraiser's bio read. "Hannah was just 17 years old—a bright light taken far too soon."

It continued: "Hannah was truly one of a kind: warm-hearted, kind, and always looking out for others. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and loved. Whether it was a friend in need, a classmate having a rough day, or a stranger who needed a smile, Hannah showed up with compassion and care."
