Renee Nicole Good's family have revealed more details about the fateful day she was shot.

Good's loved ones have shared heartfelt tributes to the late mom who they described as 'the beautiful light of our family', and thanked everyone for their support during this extremely difficult period.

In a letter shared with USA Today, the grieving family said: "We want to thank everyone who has reached out in support of Renee and our family. The kind of unending care we’ve been given during this time is exactly the kind that she gave to everyone.

"Nae was the beautiful light of our family and brought joy to anyone she met. She was relentlessly hopeful and optimistic which was contagious. We all already miss her more than words could ever express."

Her family and attorney have also shared details about hours leading up to Good's untimely death.

On January 7, the 37-year-old mom dropped her six-year-old child off at school alongside her wife, Becca Good, like any other normal day.

Their dog was in the back of the car with them on the trip and as they returned home from the school run they noticed ICE raids in the neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

According to Good's family's attorney, the couple stopped 'to observe, with the intention of supporting and helping their neighbors'.

Becca went on to exit the vehicle and, in moments that were documented on cellphone footage, Good remained behind the wheel of the car.

In this particular video (believed to have been taken by ICE agent Jonathan Ross), Good said to him: "That's fine, dude. I'm not mad at you."

Shortly after she attempted to drive away from another officer trying to get into her vehicle and, sadly, she ended up being fatally shot.

Lawyers for Good's family have confirmed that they're launching an investigation into her death and intend to take legal action against the federal government.

Antonio M. Romanucci, a founding partner at the company hired by her family, said in a statement: "People in Minneapolis and across this country truly, truly care about what happened to Renee Good on January 7, 2026, and are committed to understanding how she could have been killed on the street after dropping her child off at school.

"They want to know what could and should have been done to let Renee live and pick her child up safely from school that afternoon."

The investigation will not run alongside one conducted by the Department of Justice (DoJ) as they say there is 'no basis' for one, per a statement from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

The decision not carry out formal inquiry into the matter has been heavily criticized and sparked a handful of federal prosecutors to quit their jobs over it.

It was reported on Tuesday (January 13) that a wave of federal prosecutors in Minnesota and Washington DC resigned over the DoJ's choice, per The Guardian.
