Marjorie Taylor Greene - a one-time MAGA ally who in recent days had become a vocal critic of Donald Trump - has unexpectedly announced she is resigning from her post in Congress.
Greene’s relationship with the president had once been amicable, yet it has deteriorated in recent weeks after she tirelessly campaigned for the release of all files relating to the convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
It was this vocal support for the release of the files that led Trump to brand her a ‘lunatic’ in multiple tirades on Truth Social - and it appears Greene has had enough.
In a statement posted on X on Friday (November 21), she wrote: "Standing up for American women who were raped at 14, trafficked and used by rich powerful men, should not result in me being called a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States, whom I fought for."

She then went on to confirm that her final day in office will be on January 5, 2026.
A staunch Republican, Greene was initially one of the biggest supporters of the Make America Great Again movement, on which Trump built his first bid for presidency.
However, she was also known for courting controversy with her susceptibility to conspiracy theories and for sharing controversial hot-takes, such as comparing mandatory masking during the Covid-19 pandemic to the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust.
During her time in office, she has also appeared to advocate for violence against her Democratic opponents and, most recently, has frequently locked horns with fellow Republican Donald Trump himself over his current policy decisions regarding the decision to send US military aid to Israel and the Epstein scandal.
Earlier this week, Greene revealed she had been contacted by private security firms to alert her to threats that had been made regarding her safety.
In a post on X, Greene told her followers that 'a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world', although she didn’t name Trump, she did allude to his identity by saying: "The man I supported and helped get elected."

Greene said that 'aggressive rhetoric attacking me has historically led to death threats and multiple convictions of men who were radicalized by the same type rhetoric being directed at me right now. This time by the President of the United States'.
Although Greene didn’t reveal the specific details of the threats she had reportedly received, she did add: "As a woman I take threats from men seriously. I now have a small understanding of the fear and pressure the women, who are victims of Jeffrey Epstein and his cabal, must feel."
