Luigi Mangione has written a letter from prison as he awaits trial for the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The 27-year-old is accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges he's facing, as prosecutors seek the death penalty in the trial.

Thompson was shot and killed on December 4. On April 25 Mangione pleaded not guilty to the federal charges of stalking, firearms offences and murder.
According to a BBC report, as Mangione is facing two murder cases, one for state charges and another for federal charges, his lawyers have asked to have the federal case first.
This is due to the fact that the federal case carries the potential of a death sentence.
Mangione’s actual trial will not take place until at least 2026 as prosecutors have said they have 3 terabytes worth of data to go through. His next court date is set for June 26.

In the meantime, Mangione is reflecting on his life following his birthday last month. In a letter sent from MDC Brooklyn, he listed 27 things he is grateful for after turning 27 years old.
The University of Pennsylvania alum gave a shout out to his friends, family, legal team, cellmate 'J' and those who support him.
He has received $1 million in donations towards his defense, and fans have even sent money for him to make purchases at the jail commissary.

He also listed a number of books he’s reading and what he’s listening to in his cell.
Mangione also revealed what he gets up to while awaiting trial; on Thursdays he eats chicken with Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce and tells his vegan followers, “Sorry… it’s the realest food here, and I need my strength.”

He also gave a shoutout to the group 'Latinas For Mangione', a group dedicated to supporting him.
Mangione has previously given a shoutout to his supporters. Back in February, hundreds of people attended his first court hearing since his arraignment, with a majority of them being young women.
They were seen lining up outside the New York City court early in the morning to gain access, many sporting placards.
With all this in mind, his legal team has had to set up a website for him where an FAQ page has been created where he can issue statements.

It read: "I am overwhelmed by - and grateful for - everyone who has written me to share their stories and express their support.
"Powerfully, this support has transcended political, racial, and even class divisions, as mail has flooded MDC from across the country, and around the globe.
"While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write. I look forward to hearing more in the future."
