Emma Stone has been called out by fans for making 'out of touch' comments about Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing CEO Brian Thompson.
Stone has been criticised after she made a comparison between her new movie Bugonia and the Mangione case.
The movie follows two men who are obsessed with conspiracies, who become convinced that the CEO of a major company - played by Stone - is actually an alien who wants to destroy Earth.
Looking to bring her down, the men, played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis, then proceed to kidnap the boss.

During a Q&A at the Telluride Film Festival, Stone said: "What's really crazy, after we had shot the film – I live in New York – we heard someone was shot up the street. It was a healthcare CEO. You know, because Luigi. You guys heard about this?
"It was wild, because we had all just been in a basement [filming] together, talking about these issues and the bigger meaning of everything. It keeps hitting you that the world is so deeply fraught and terrifying in so many ways."

Mangione is accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges he's facing, as prosecutors seek the death penalty in the trial.
Thompson was shot and killed on December 4. On April 25, Mangione pleaded not guilty to the federal charges of stalking, firearms offences and murder.
According to a BBC report, as Mangione is facing two murder cases, one for state charges and another for federal charges, his lawyers have asked to have the federal case first.
This is due to the fact that the federal case carries the potential of a death sentence.

Mangione’s actual trial will not take place until at least 2026.

Following Stone's comments, some people criticised the actress on social media.
One wrote: "'You guys heard about this?' is kinda funny considering he was the most talked about man in America at one point in time."

Another said: "Emma, I thought you were better than this. Gross."
And a third added: "I kind of hoped she'd have more to say besides 'how terrifying' (??? what exactly is she saying is terrifying here?) given the obvious parallels between her movie and the UHC CEO case. Just an obvious cop-out from talking about the political context."
Others pointed out that Mangione has pleaded not guilty, and has not yet stood trial.
UNILAD has reached out to Stone's representative for comment.
