A grief-stricken father has issued a heartbreaking tribute to his 'bright' son who died after being fatally stabbed while at a track meet.

Austin Metcalf, 17, was with his younger brother, Hunter, at the track and field championship at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco on Wednesday (April 2) when he reportedly became embroiled in a row in the stands with another 17-year-old.

Local police confirmed to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth that officers were called to the scene at around 10am, with cops confirming to the outlet: "Despite lifesaving measures by police and fire personnel, including CPR and the administration of blood, the (17)-year-old victim died."

According to Austin's father, Jeff Metcalf, the alleged altercation occurred over a wrong seat.

Hunter attempted to help his brother by trying to stop the bleeding, but it was too late.

"I tried to whip around as fast as I could," he told WFAA. “I looked at my brother and I’m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him.”

Jeff later told NBC5 that his sons didn't know the person who'd allegedly stabbed Austin.

He continued to say: "They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother's arms. I rushed up there and I saw him on the gurney and I could tell - they said he wasn't breathing.

"I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital.

"And we prayed, and it's God's plan, I don't understand it, but they weren't able to save him. This is murder."

Paying tribute to his late son, Jeff further revealed he had a 4.0 GPA and was MVP of the football team, adding: "He was loved by many. He was a leader."

Jeff has also set up a GoFundMe to honor Austin, where he also described him as a 'bright young man with a great future ahead of him'.

"We will all remember him for the way he impacted others' lives. I love you forever, son. It's not goodbye, it's see you later." he continued.

According to NBC News, Frisco police confirmed that they had arrested and charged Karmelo Anthony, 17, with Austin's death, however, they said his bond had not been set yet and it was unknown if he had an attorney to speak on his behalf.

They continued to say in their statement that the department is 'collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time'.

They added that an investigation is ongoing.
