Donald Trump was caught on camera pocketing a certain item to take home from the FIFA Club World Cup over the weekend.

The president was in attendance at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-German 3-0 in a dominant display from the English side.

A double from talisman Cole Palmer, plus a goal from new signing João Pedro, saw the Blues race into a 3-0 first half lead, while a straight red for PSG's João Neves in the second half sent the French side down with a whimper.

Trump joined FIFA president Gianni Infantino to hand over the trophy to the Chelsea squad after the match, and even joined in the celebrations - which some viewers dubbed as 'embarrassing'.

The POTUS awarded the prize to Chelsea captain Reece James, but while Infantino removed himself from shot, Trump stayed standing alongside the team as they celebrated their victory.

Prior to the Chelsea players lifting the trophy, Trump was given a medal by Infantino, which the president ultimately pocketed as the FIFA head honcho leant in to get it back.

Infantino hit Trump with a thumbs up and allowed the 79-year-old to keep the medal. I mean, you're not going to argue with the US president are you?

Video footage of Trump bagging the medal has gone viral, with one person joking of the clip: "He scored the winner! Best goal. The greatest."

While a second quipped: "He didn’t play a minute."

Speaking on behalf of OLBGI, Darren Stanton said Trump's body language during the whole awards ceremony was very ‘disingenuous’.

"I think Trump is so disingenuous, he's got such a fake smile, a masking smile, it's almost like a dad at a wedding, he's trying to show excitement, but he's like a fish out of water," the expert said.

"Trump makes these kinds of fist gestures and jumps up and down. I just think Trump is trying his best to get involved in the excitement, but not really authentic.”

The president told DAZN that the real Club World Cup trophy is in the Oval Office, while the Chelsea team were handed a replica.

"They said, ‘Could you hold this trophy for a little while?’ We put it in the Oval Office," Trump told the broadcaster.

"And then I said, ‘When are you going to pick up the trophy?’ He says, ‘We're never going to pick it up. You can have it forever in the Oval Office. We're making a new one.’”
